| The
Cowichan River 90 minutes from downtown Victoria over the scenic Malahat Highway, The Cowichan River runs east from Lake Cowichan to Duncan (The City of Totems) and into the Strait of Georgia. The Malahat has some spectacular viewing areas and the Malahat Inn restaurant, a favourite stopping place on the way home for dinner. Our journey begins in the village of Lake Cowichan where we set off in a Hyde River Drift boat. The drift takes about six hours powered only by gravity and your guide's rowing ability. Stops along the way to cast, explore, and picnic make the day fly by. After learning the different aspects of fly fishing (Dry lines, wet lines, nymphing, fly tying, and casting) you will be able to customize your next trip with us to what interests you most. The Cowichan is a special river with a healthy native brown and rainbow trout population. In season it also receives a full range of anadromous species. Coho, Chinook, Chum Salmon and Steelhead all visit the river to spawn and challenge the fly angler. Its banks are adorned with ancient Spruce and Cedars whose great overhanging limbs are host to bald eagles. On lucky days visitors can spot Heron, Ducks, Elk, Black Bears and Otters that visit the river's edge. Come share a day with us soon. |
